New Resources Support Climate-Resilient Renewable Energy Projects in Rural BC
As rural and remote communities across British Columbia explore local renewable energy solutions, climate resilience needs to be part of the conversation from the beginning.
Community-scale solar and biomass projects can support local energy security, reduce emissions and create opportunities for community leadership and economic development. At the same time, these projects may be exposed to climate-related risks, including wildfire, extreme heat, flooding, drought and severe storms.
The Fraser Basin Council has released new resources to help communities and practitioners better understand and address climate risks affecting community-scale renewable energy projects.
A valuable resource for rural communities
From the BC Rural Centre’s perspective, this work is particularly relevant for rural, remote and Indigenous communities considering renewable energy investments or managing existing energy infrastructure.
The resources can help project teams and community partners:
