Cariboo Chilcotin Forestry Leaders Unite Around Regional Solutions
More than 60 forestry, Indigenous, government and economic development leaders gathered in Williams Lake on July 23 for the Cariboo Chilcotin Forestry Forum, hosted by the City of Williams Lake.
The forum focused on practical solutions to strengthen the region’s forest economy, support sustainable jobs, improve wildfire resilience and advance long-term forest stewardship. Participants emphasized the importance of local knowledge, community-based decision-making and collaboration across the region.
Six shared priorities emerged:
- Strategic partnerships
- Wildfire resiliency
- Communication and public awareness
- Reliable fibre access for local forestry operations
- Land stewardship and restoration
- Greater utilization of every harvested tree
The forum marks the beginning of a collaborative process. Over the coming months, participants will refine these priorities into a regional action plan, establish working groups and advance coordinated solutions. Regional leaders also plan to invite the Premier and provincial ministers to the Cariboo Chilcotin this fall to discuss the recommendations.
With strong local expertise, partnerships and leadership, the region is working together to shape a resilient and sustainable future for forestry and the communities it supports.
