Trail and Rossland Sign Recreation Agreement for 2024

ROSSLAND – In a move towards continued regional collaboration, the cities of Trail and Rossland have reached a Trail Resident Program (TRP) recreation services agreement for one year that would come into effect January 1, 2024. This agreement marks a significant step forward in promoting community well-being, sharing resources and enhancing recreational opportunities.

The agreement permits residents in Rossland to use Trail’s recreational facilities (including the Trail Aquatic and Leisure Centre, the Trail Memorial Centre, the Willi Krause Fieldhouse, and various other fields), programs and services at the reduced Trail Resident Program (TRP) fee.

Both cities expressed enthusiasm and optimism about the newly forged partnership on “regional recreational facilities and services”, something that hasn’t been in place since the TRP fee structure was introduced back in 2009.

Mayor Colleen Jones, City of Trial, stated, “This collaboration represents a triumph of community spirit and shared vision. By pooling resources and expertise, we can create a more vibrant recreational landscape for residents and visitors alike. This agreement is a testament to the strength of our communities when we work together.”

Mayor Andy Morel, City of Rossland, echoed these sentiments, saying, “Rossland is thrilled to embark on this joint venture with Trail. Our two cities share a rich history and a passion for recreation, and by combining our efforts, we can amplify the impact of our recreational initiatives and ensure that our residents have access to top-notch facilities and programming.”

The mayors also emphasized that this agreement is indicative to the increased spirit of regional cooperation and shared responsibility for the well-being of all residents in the lower Columbia region. The collaborative efforts are expected to set a precedent for other future initiatives that seek to maximize the benefits of communities working together towards common regional goals.

To make the best use of the recreational facilities and programs for 2024, City of Rossland residents are encouraged to obtain a TRP card from the Trail Aquatic and Leisure Center starting January 2^nd, 2024. To facilitate applications efficiently it is key that Rossland Residents have a fully completed application form and all necessary documentation before arrival. As a note, accepted documentation of residency would include TWO of the following: Driver’s License, BC ID, Property Tax Notice, City Utility bill, or FortisBC bill. The creation of a Parks & Recreation profile is encouraged before dropping in with a TRP application, which can be done by calling (250) 364-0888 or emailing parksadmin@trail.ca.
