Highlands & Islands Enterprise — Prickly Thistle

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is an ambitious Scottish organization with a unique mandate, one that successfully integrates economic and community development in rural northern Scotland. HIE, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year,  works in a diverse region which extends from Shetland to Argyll, and from the Outer Hebrides islands to Moray, covering more than half of Scotland’s land mass.

To mark HIE’s half-century of innovative, place-based rural innovation, the BC Rural Centre will feature a number of short videos this month, highlighting the organization’s initiatives.

In this first instalment, we present a case study of young, rural Scottish female entrepreneurs, Lois Moyes (22), and Nicole Taylor (23), whose company, Prickly Thistle, demonstrates that rural is not out of fashion!
