Paul Hinrichs, on (rural) music, money, & all that jazz!

Paul Hinrichs joined the venerable Kaslo Jazz Festival as its Artistic Director in 2015. A year later he found himself serving as its Executive Director, faced with the prospect of reviving a flagging festival, once touted in USA Today as one of the top 10 places in the world to listen to summer music, but now in danger of disappearing — taking with it an outsize impact on the tiny, isolated village of Kaslo, BC. When the dust settled a year later, Kaslo Jazz was back — big time — emerging with its best-ever attendance, record revenue, ready to innovate and further its positive impact on the town and region. In this talk during the KEEPING IT RURAL 2017 conference, hosted by SIBAC/BC Rural Centre in late June, Paul explains how he, his dedicated board, and hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers managed to turn things around.
